“To be clear, the media did note Trump’s call for tariffs, but they never demanded or received any specificity from Trump. By contrast, any time Vice-President Harris put forward a proposal, like her plan for covering assisted living for senior citizens, the media demanded to know exactly how she would pay for it.”

The media did a horrendous disservice to the public, far more than in recent memory and their lapses have been constant, mostly out of class self-interest. Now that the knives are out and media barons aren’t hiding their true intent - to the point where they’re bleeding journalists at a time when there are no jobs for them, one would think the political class would take the hint and do the one job that is necessary in order to garner public support. Instead, we’ve been seeing a cavalcade of Democrats moving right (Schumer, Slotkin) and you have one governor starting a podcast with him ditching his original constituency in his very first broadcast.

I am all for M4A. I always have been. But before we can have a voting public that is for it, a majority of Democrats on the hill need to join Bernie Sanders and AOC in doing teach-ins to reeducate the public on some basic tenets of the social contract. Americans’ understanding of those tenets have been eroded by years of neoliberal propagandizing by a media that is owned by the oligarchy. Divide and conquer has worked. Now, it needs to be undone before we can move forward.

Right now I pay about 10% of my salary for my employer's healthcare. I would gladly pay that as a tax instead giving it to a for profit entity.
